This Junior / Graduate Designer (Clothing and Accessories) role is designed for someone early in their fashion career, such as a recent graduate with a placement year or a candidate with about a year’s experience. The position offers exposure to the full design-to-sale process across multiple product groups, making it ideal for building a strong foundation in commercial fashion design.
This role is a strong fit for someone looking to gain hands-on experience in the fashion industry, develop technical and creative skills, and contribute to the commercial success of clothing and accessory ranges
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Buyer in developing commercially viable product ranges, including new styles and updates to existing ones based on trends and customer feedback.
- Basic print design knowledge for fashion applications and the ability to work on in-house brands as well as bespoke customer projects.
- Work within budget and margin constraints, demonstrating awareness of competitors’ ranges and colour palettes.
- Create detailed seasonal CAD designs and accurate technical specifications for factories, including size specs and print scale communication.
- Liaise with factories to resolve design-related queries and ensure packaging spec sheets are completed on time.
- Translate buyer visions into detailed spec sheets and respond efficiently to tight customer briefs.
- Assist other departments as needed, showing flexibility and teamwork.
Required Skills:
- At least 1 years’ experience as a design intern or in a similar role.
- Strong CAD and computer literacy, with proficiency in design software such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines, demonstrating flexibility and forward planning for future seasons.
- Professional attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn from observation and feedback.
- Good communication skills for collaborating with buyers, factories, and other teams.
- Commercial awareness and a keen eye for trends, colour, and product details.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Degree in fashion design or a related field.
- Portfolio showcasing a range of work across disciplines is advantageous.
- Experience with garment construction and technical specifications.
